“To have the opportunity to compete and defend my Commonwealth Games Golds in Melbourne, my home city, is truly a sporting experience that will never be matched in my career.” - Nathan Deakes, 20km and 50km Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist, Manchester 2002.

Melbourne Docklands is a world-class waterfront location. The Race Walk events will be held on the water’s edge at stunning Victoria Harbour and New Quay. These events, because of the distance and the discipline involved, are an emotional as well as a physical challenge.

  • The start and finish line will be located on Harbour Esplanade adjacent to Telstra Dome. Athletes will head north along Harbour Esplanade, complete a circuit of New Quay via Aquitania Way, Caravel Lane, Dopel Way and New Quay Promenade before returning turn Harbour Esplanade, heading south to U-turn just before Bourke Street, then north back along Harbour Esplanade, to the start and finish line. For more details visit the Road Events course descriptions page.
