Nthabiseng Moabi of South Africa celebrates a goal during a preliminary round netball match between South Africa and Fiji.

South Africa has finished seventh in the Netball tournament, after a 46-42 win over Wales, while Fiji had a decisive 69-45 victory over Barbados to finish in ninth position.

Wales dominated the first quarter with vigorous play and accuracy in the circle led by goal attack Rhiannon Ace.

South Africa shared much of the ball but hesitancy in passing and strong defence by Welsh goal keeper Sara Hale kept it from many scoring opportunities, trailing 11-15 after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the South Africans lift their game as they played with more confidence and made better use of key shooter Sindisiwe Gumede.

The South Africans reduced the margin by one goal, going in at half-time 22-25 in arrears.

In a desperate final quarter, Christine Markgraaff proved to be a tower of strength with her impeccable accuracy under pressure.

The workload and speed of the South African mid-court shone through in the final minutes, with tenacious defence and persistence the hallmarks of the four-point victory.

In the battle for ninth position Fiji dominated the first half - their defensive combination of Matila Waganidrola and Mere Rabuka making it difficult for Barbados to penetrate the circle.

Effectively using tall shooter Taraima Rara, Fiji were consistent and accurate in the circle, taking a solid 17-10 goal lead into quarter time.

Despite Barbados having most of the play, poor passing, over-crowding in the attacking third and failure to convert, held them to just six goals in the second quarter.

Fiji's accurate passing and mid court play was too good for Barbados and they took a commanding 34-16 lead into the half time break.

While competitive in the second half, Barbados were never able to chase down the Fijian lead. Fiji comprehensively taking 9th position with the 24 goal win.
