Stadium set to roar

Frances Solia of Samoa to play Barbados in the opening Netball match on day seven.

The top two teams in Group A and B will come face-to-face on day seven of the Netball to vie for the top spot in their respective pools.

In the match of the round, the much-anticipated showdown between Jamaica and host side Australia will set the stadium roaring.

The teams have a history of close and physical battles in major competitions so this match may go right to the wire.

Australia looked sharp in its victory over Samoa, and Jamaica has impressed in every outing so far.

There will be some fierce match-ups to watch out for, none more so than Australia captain and goal attack Sharelle McMahon up against the Jamaican defenders.

Great pressure will need to be implemented from the Australia defence in order to limit the opportunities to the towering Jamaican goal shooter Elaine Davis.

The opening game of the round will be contested between Samoa and Barbados, with Samoa predicted to bounce back from its heavy loss to Australia on Day 6 and to be too strong for Barbados.

Barbados has completed three matches in this tournament with only one win so far. Barbados will look to their match against Wales tomorrow for another opportunity to score a win.

South Africa should have its hands full with their encounter against Fiji. Both teams will be desperate to seal the win having suffered shock losses to Malawi.

This match could go either way with the height of South African shooter Sindisiwe Gumede set to play a pivotal role. The key for Fiji will be to take care of possession in its attacking end and remain composed when the pressure mounts.

In the final match of the round, World Champions New Zealand will take on England. New Zealand, which has a wealth of experience and depth, should come away with top spot in their group.

England has the potential to match the New Zealanders but it’s a question of whether they can sustain the onslaught for the full duration of the match.

The clash between dead-eye goal shooter Irene Van Dyk and England defenders Sonia Mkoloma and Geva Mentor is expected to be one of the areas where the match could turn.
