Giaan is a member of the Australian team that holds the 4x100m Medley Relay World Record of 3:57.32, obtained at the Athens Olympics.

Giaan burst onto the international scene at the age of 15 when she won gold in the 100m Backstroke at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
Giaan lists her most respected opponent as US swimmer Natalie Coughlin.
She was awarded the Queensland Female Junior Athlete of the Year in 2001.
She joined the rare club of swimmers who have won a world title in two different strokes when she took out the 50m Backstroke at the 2005 World Championships in Montreal - adding to the gold medal she claimed in the 200m Freestyle at the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka.
She first started swimming when she was 11 years old. |
