Injuries | Health problems in Manchester curtailed his 2002 Commonwealth Games opportunities. Dean also claims a hip injury prevented him from swimming at his best in the 2005 Commonwealth Games Trials, and that he has previously suffered from swimmer's shoulder. |

Dean trains at the Millennium Institute of Sport and Health in Auckland and has been in a competitive squad since he was about eight years old.
Dean has won eight consecutive National Championships in the 100m, 200m and 400m medley events and has also added the 100m breaststroke title.
At the Jomner North Harbour Sporting Excellence Awards in 2005, Dean picked up the Spencer On Byron Hotel Sportsman of the Year award. |
