In 2002 Brian won the 2002 Howard Mackie award as top male athlete in Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

When he was a 17-year-old high school student, he qualified for the 2000 Olympics in the 200m IM at the trials - beating the Olympic qualifying standard in the semi-final, then lowering it again in the final.

Brian started swimming at the age of six and trained in a 100 foot-long pool in Richmond until a new one was built three years ago.
