Alex comes from a huge sporting family - his mother is a golf instructor, his dad is a keen golfer, and his sister competed in diving events for several years.

He has been an ambassador for McDonald's since 1999 and has recently signed on to continue in his role until 2008.

He shot to stardom among the Canadian sporting ranks in 1998 when he claimed gold at the Commonwealth Games at the age of 13.
