Other Pero is captain of the Tall Blacks. He has been a backbone of the team since debuting in 1994. He was a co-captain of the team which contested the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Pero has played professionally in Malaysia and England, and he currently plays in Turkey. He got a release from his Turkish team to play at the Commonwealth Games.

Pero has won seven NBL championship titles, five Kiwi MVP awards and has been selected to seven All-Star Fives.

Pero's awards include; Rookie of the Year (1992), Rebound Champion (1993), Outstanding Forward (1998), Kiwi MVP (1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1999), Outstanding NZ Forward (1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999), All-Star Five (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001).
