The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Group Ticket Offer closes this Friday October 7 – giving schools, community groups and sporting associations across Australia just a few days to be a part of the biggest sporting and cultural event ever staged in Victoria.

Tickets are still available across a range of events including the spectacular Ceremonies and Athletics at the redeveloped Melbourne Cricket Ground, the action packed Rugby 7s at the Telstra Dome and a range of top class sports events including Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Squash, Table Tennis and Weightlifting sessions.

The ‘Group Ticket Offer’ provides an added incentive for groups to attend the Games, which expires this Friday.

By buying a minimum of 20 tickets to any single event the Group ‘Organiser’ will receive two additional tickets, courtesy of the Group Ticket Offer sponsor and supermarket retailer, Woolworths.

Melbourne 2006 Chief Executive Officer, John Harnden, said the Group Ticket Offer was open to all schools, local councils, sporting associations, formal community, non-commercial, non-profit and social groups and tickets would be sold on a first come, first served basis, subject to availability.

“What better way to be a part of the action then attending the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games with colleagues, friends or teammates,” John Harnden said.

“By offering tickets to groups we want to give school friends, sporting clubs, community groups and social clubs an opportunity to get involved in what will be the event of a lifetime.” Mr Harden said.

The Group Ticket Offer Woolworths incentive closes this Friday October 7.

Groups can still purchase tickets from October 15 – when general on sale ticketing commences – but the Woolworths Incentive will no longer be available.

Games Minister Justin Madden urged schools and community groups to get involved.

“The offer represents a chance to experience the Games the most rewarding way – as a group.

“Tickets are still available for Groups to see the world fastest man, Asafa Powell at the MCG or Glenn Ella’s Australian Rugby 7s team taking on the might of the Commonwealth.”

In addition to the Woolworths Group Ticket Offer incentive, Group Organisers who book their package using a National Australia Bank Visa Card will receive a 6% rebate off their total ticket purchase price.

More information, including an Order Form, schedule of available tickets and ticket prices, can be found in the ‘Group Ticket Offer Organisers Booklet’.

The Booklet can also be ordered via the Games website at and alternative formats of braille, large print and audio, are available by phoning a customer service representative on 1300 00 2006.

The Games will be a unique opportunity to witness 4500 elite athletes from 71 nations taking part in the XVIII Commonwealth Games to be held from 15-26 March 2006. For further information on the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, go to
