Launched in April 2005, Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006 is a free membership-based ‘business club’ that facilitates international business outcomes through its unique business matching services, website, program of networking events and one-on-one meetings.

During the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games members will also have access to Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006’s world-class business facility as well as hospitality at key venues. Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006 will showcase Australian and Victorian business capabilities and promote Australian businesses as world-class trade and investment partners.

Building on Success

Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006 builds on the outstanding success of previous Business Club Australia programs designed and led by Austrade staged during the 2000 Olympic Games and Rugby World Cup 2003.

Business Club Australia has facilitated over A$1.5b in business deals, and a further A$675m investment is expected (at June 2005). The Rugby Business Club Australia program helped 183 Australian companies achieve export earnings with significant negotiations in progress.

Official Commonwealth Games international business program

The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation has endorsed Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006 as the official program creating international business opportunities through the Commonwealth Games.

Membership

Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006 membership is free and open to any businesses interested in pursuing international connections. New members will join an existing Business Club Australia membership, which has attracted over 20,000 business people from around the world. Businesses can join at Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006 events and through the Club’s website.

Members will have access to matching services through personalised meetings, networking events, hospitality at venues and online through the Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006 website. Business Club Australia: Melbourne 2006 is jointly managed by the Australian Government, represented by Austrade and Invest Australia, and the Victorian Government, represented by the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development and the Office of the Commonwealth Games Coordination, and draws together the knowledge and experience of an impressive group of government and private partners to ensure the program caters for the needs of Australian and international businesses.

Steering Committee

Under the auspices of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation, a steering committee has been established to ensure the program delivers high quality business and networking services to its members. The Committee is chaired by Qantas Airways Chair, Ms Margaret Jackson AC, and comprises Austrade, Invest Australia, Victorian Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, Office of the Commonwealth Games Coordination, the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Tourism Australia, Invest Victoria, Tourism Victoria, the Victorian Industry Capability Network, the Victorian Employment Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Australian Industry Group, the City of Melbourne and the Commonwealth Business Council and the Geelong Economic Development Council.
