An easy walk from the city centre across the Yarra River on Princess Bridge, the Arts Centre and its environs is another focal point for Festival Melbourne2006 with exhibitions, outdoor theatre, live music and more.
Australia’s premier physical theatre company, Legs on the Wall, will perform a specially commissioned aerial show on the northern wall of NGV International.
And the Arts Centre Lawn will be transformed into The Beach at the Arts Centre for the duration of the Games, with live bands belting out the sounds of summer, beach games, bathing boxes, roving performers and lots and lots of sand. There’s also spectacular outdoor theatre in the Arts Centre Forecourt, an Indigenous exhibition and cabaret in the Arts Centre’s Blackbox and a program of remarkable exhibitions at venues in the immediate vicinity, including the Australian Centre of Contemporary Art on Sturt Street, Victorian College of the Arts Gallery on Dodds Street, and NGV International on St Kilda Road.
